Fox Business Channel

From LoveToKnow Business

The Fox Business Channel (FBC) hit the airwaves on October 15, 2007. Over 30 million homes in the United States have access to the channel through local cable providers. In addition to the main studio in Manhattan, the Channel also has bureaus in a number of other cities, including Washington, D.C., London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

When Rupert Murdoch, the chairman of the News Corp., made the official announcement the Fox Business Channel would be launched, he told reporters that his new venture would be "more business friendly than CNBC." Murdoch went on to say that the rival news channel was "quick to leap on every scandal."

Deals with Multiple Cable Providers

The Fox Business Channel made arrangements with two cable providers, Time Warner and Comcast, to add the channel to their respective lineups before the official launch. Comcast is the largest cable provider in the United States, and the company planned to offer FBC to about 50 percent of its cable subscribers who have digital cable.

Time Warner planned to offer FBC to over 7 million households, including 300,000 customers in the New York area who would receive the channel as part of their analogue cable service. St. Louis-based company, Charter Communications, also agreed to carry FBC.

Slow Start

According to a recent news story published by the New York Daily News, the number of people actually tuning in to FBC during the day has been disappointing. The Channel is only attracting 6,000 viewers, although the number of viewers does jump to 15,000 in the evening hours.

FBC's competition, CNBC, attracts over 280,000 viewers during daytime hours, and it decreases to over 230,000 in prime time.

Fox Business Channel is still a new player in the market and over time it is expected these numbers will increase.
