A Fun, Easy Home Business
LoveToKnow (LTK): What is the best part of the Lia Sophia consultant experience?
Jeri McMinn (JM): I get to wear all the jewelry myself!
One thing I like about it -- it’s easy money. I hate to say that – because there’s no 'easy money'; it does take work, but the parties are so much fun. I just joke -- all I do is put the jewelry out there, the ladies try it on, I eat the snacks, and they throw me money!
Making a Profit
JM: Once people come [to the parties], they buy. Consultants make 30 percent of profit. If you start recruiting and have active recruits under you, you become a manager, and you make an additional 10 percent.
To remain active, you need to put in an order of $250 once every three months. To remain a consultant, just once per year.
Giving Great Customer Service
JM: I definitely like to show people how they can get more for their money. One gal wanted to buy this one item for a hundred some dollars – I said 'you can buy two pairs of earrings and get that at half price'. I personally didn’t make as much money as if she would have bought the one item - but I want them to get as much as they can for their money. It’s not all about me. One thing I would encourage people is you want to do this to help other people. When you help other people, you’re helping yourself.

Challenges of Running a Lia Sophia Business
LTK: What is the greatest challenge you’ve faced in selling jewelry for Lia Sophia?
JM: For me personally – I can't stand making phone calls. I don’t like the phone – but most women do. Really I think the biggest challenge is just overcoming my own fears. [With Lia Sophia] I don’t feel like I have to push anybody – if they like it, they buy it.
Time Management Secrets
Although she is a successful entrepreneur with her home business venture, Jeri never allows her business to take precedence over people -- often rescheduling her work day to help meet needs in the community or within her family.
LTK: You not only run your Lia Sophia Business, but you are a busy pastor's wife, involved in the community, and mom of three children, too. What are your secrets for staying organized?
JM: Inevitably, things happen. You have to be flexible. Things come up that you didn’t plan for. I’m trying to plan for extra time in my day – you have to be open to people and not be ‘so’ bound to your day. If I spend time doing my prayer time and my devotions – my day goes better. If I put that time first, God brings it all together.
Set specific time aside. Just like if you were getting in your car and going to work – set aside work time. As women – we’re being pulled in a million different directions all the time. Just be disciplined. And just do it -- and have fun at it. I find [the Lia Sophia Parties] actually get my mind off some of the more stressful things.
