Party Home Businesses
From LoveToKnow Business
Party home businesses rang up over $8 billion in sales last year alone. If you have a product to sell, you can probably sell it at a home party.
About Party Home Businesses
Party home businesses have become a viable employment option for thousands of people who would rather not participate in the daily grind of traditional employment. Party businesses offer entrepreneurs a way to start their own business for a fraction of the cost of other franchises.
Tupperware parties were once the only game in town for party sales. Today, that market has been cracked wide open, and there are home businesses for just about any product you can think of. Here's the usual scenario using Tupperware as our example.
Party businesses are like a chain link reaction. You receive an invitation in the mail to attend a party where Tupperware is being featured and sold. You attend the party where you receive refreshments, perhaps play some games, and view a professional presentation of all the latest Tupperware for sale. You'll receive a sales catalog good for a limited time from the date of the party, and you can choose to purchase some of the items for sale. The person who invited you to the party, otherwise known as the "hostess" receives a certain amount of credit for your purchases, which usually amounts to free merchandise and/or a discount on her own purchases. In order to gain new clients, demonstrators of these products will try to sign up several new hostesses from the party goers to hold their own Tupperware parties, and this is the main way party home businesses perpetuate themselves.
Party Business Opportunities
Here are just a few in a sea of party home businesses for your consideration.
Pampered Chef
The Pampered Chef party home business offers a line of high quality baking and cooking parafenalia. Typically the party demonstrator will help the "hostess" create a recipe using one or more of the items offered for sale. The hostess usually receives a free gift, and credit from the sales generated from the party. This party home business was so good, that multi-billionaire Warren Buffet bought the company.
Stampin Up
Scrapbooking is a hobby that has literally exploded in the last decade, and shows no signs of waning. Stampin Up uses the home business strategy to sell their exclusive line of rubber stamps and other scrapbook decorating accessories. Hostesses receive a free stamp set, and the incentives increase with the amount of sales generated. Demonstrators try to book more parties through the attending guests, and to sign up new demonstrators in order to receive a commission from their future sales.
Royal Candle Company
The whole aromatherapy industry has made scented candles a must have accent for home decor. The Royal Candle Company sells distributorships and candle products for party home businesses. Demonstrators are then encouraged to recruit new demonstrators into the business, and receive sales commissions for their efforts.
Mary Kay Cosmetics
Another one of the most famous party home businesses, Mary Kay has been selling beauty aids for the last forty years. The demonstrators at the top of the list receive a pink Cadillac to drive.
Discovery Toys
Sell children's toys in your spare time with one of these party home businesses. Discovery Toys offers its top selling consultants a Trailblazer.
Becoming a Party Home Business Associate
If you think party businesses might be something you'd like to try, be aware of a few things.
- First, you need to have an outgoing personality if you hope to be a success. These businesses are not for shrinking violets, you need to make the atmosphere fun so party goers will relax and likely buy more products.
- Second, party businesses require a monetary investment, which could be as little as $100.00 or as much as $2000.00, depending on the company you want to represent.
- Third, be sure to thoroughly check the businesses you are interested in with the Better Business Bureau. You can also try some online searches to locate current demonstrators and see if they will share their experiences working for the company. Be aware though that demonstrators have a vested interest, and may make things sound very rosy while trying to recruit you themselves to increase their own bottom line.
- Fourth, once you decide on a company, give it a test run by scheduling to host a party for a professional demonstrator. This will give you a better idea if the company is the right fit for you.
