There are a lot of useful tips but this site has too many links. I felt like I was going in circles trying to find an example of each topic. And the pictures in the slideshow were not helpful at all. However, I did learn something and so I'll come back again.

This section of Resume Objective provides lots of information on what is the importance of writing a good objective and it's importance, it also provides few examples related to various category, but I personally feel that it should include some good example of objectives which we can use in our resumes / cv's, I look forward these in next few weeks. Please keep your good work on. Also if you could include few sites offering similar services such as resume-builder.net or interactiveresumebuilder.com that will help the readers to get some direct benefit. Thanks, Vivek

Hi Sanjusing,

To design your objective, try to target the exact position you're after. Within the objective, highlight the skills you bring to the table and the way they will benefit the company.

-- Contributed by: Enter your name here

Hi Aperez,

Look at the examples in the article. They start out with information about the person applying for the job. "Innovated fundraising professional", "seasoned marketing professional" and "Shift foreman and quality and safety control specialist" all start the objective off with pertinent, effectively worded information about the person. Do the same with your objective. For example, you could start out with something about being a bi-lingual professional. Also, be sure to use key words that are found in the employment ad.

Hi Msy,

Remember that writing a resume objective needs to focus on what you can bring to the company. For example:

Hi Chris,

Including "to grow with the company" in your objective is fine, but remember: You want the objective to show what you bring to the company. While this statement shows your desire for the company to grow, it also reflects that you need to grow. Without listing any skills, this statement seems to say you don't have anything to offer. On the other hand, if you state your skills, for example: To grow with a company that will utilize my sales management experience to effectively increase profits.

Grow with the company.

HOW TO WRITE A OBJECTIVE

-- Contributed by: finance analyist

Hi Aadi,

Your resume objective should be about what you can do for the company. It often helps to know exactly what job or position you want, and then you can tell the potential employer how you will use your skills to meet their needs. We have quite a few articles to help you with specifics. Here are a few links to get you started:

As for your hobbies, don't include them unless they add to the skills and experience portion of your resume and are applicable to the job you hope to attain. In other words, if your hobbies aren't somehow relevant to the job, don't include them.

Hi Moses,

If you tweak it to show what you offer them rather than what they offer you, it will be even more effective. For example:

Hi Peggy,

You've listed experience and skills. Your next step is to extract what your skills are from this work history. Ask what you have to offer to a potential employer. You're resume will show your experience. Something like:

To obtain a receptionist position to utilize customer service skills along with attention to detail to help an office run efficiently.

This should get you started.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

I am interested in the position for a receptionist at your salon. I have experience for this job. I worked 4 yrs as a dental receptionist. 3 yrs in customer service at a discount store. This include returns, lay-a-aways and some bookeeping and payroll. I worked for 12 years at a local bank. Teller work: Taking deposits, cashing checks. Balancing cash drawer at end of every day. I also did some new accounts and CD's for customers of the bank. I feel that I am qualified for this position. Also I worked for about 4 yrs in real estate. This included more than just selling property. We had to answer the phone and set up appointments for other realtors to show property.

Hi Sean,

No, you don't need an objective, however don't send your resume without a cover letter. If possible address it to a named individual. Grab the potential employer's attention in the first paragraph by providing the reasons you are qualified for the position without rehashing what is in your resume.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

I'm applying for just a really vague description, such as a self explanatory job "barista", and the description being "serve/make/take orders" do I need an objective or cover letter for that? If I do, what would be applicable to say?

Thanks. Sean :)

Hello I am a DDAI graduate, and I am seeking a position as a Truck Driver. I am a hard worker and fast learner, and I will do the best that I can do for the company.

-- Contributed by: Justin Williams

The key word is objective. The two questions you'll want to address are:

  1. What’s the next step in your career?
  2. How will your skills benefit the company?

You objective will show how these two things merge. Your objective could look something like:

To join a cardiovascular team allowing me to apply my knowledge and experience as a cardiovascular technologist where I can provide excellent patient care and apply my conscientious cost control and productivity skills to benefit [name company].

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

Hi Twjaswini,

If you mean you don't understand matching objectives let me clarify. Objectives do not have to be included in your resume, but if you do be sure to customize your objective to "match" skills needed for the position you are applying for. Keep the objective short and specific to be effective.

Hi Sadasiva

We don't actually write objectives for our readers but offer information to help them write an effective resume objective. When you write yours be sure to show a link between the position you seek and the one offered. Try to write the objective from the employer's point of view and focus it on what you will bring to the new position.

Hi Tina,

Try to write your objective from the employer's point of view. Focus your objective on what you will bring to the new position. "A dedicated hospital medical record clerk with vast experience in delivering, retrieving, filing, and maintaining a high volume of patient records."

You can also list specifics as they apply to the types of records you have handled. If you have experience tracking and releasing health information records to authorized requesters, things like this should be included in your objective information.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

i am a Hospital medical record personel so please give me a small career objective

Hi rishi agrawal,

A short objective is best. In fact, the entire resume should be only long enough to attract hiring managers to call you for job interviews but no longer than it needs to be. Unfortunately, there's not a hard and fast rule on length, because it depends on varying factors. Just remember that your resume is a marketing tool for your career. It does not need to be a lengthy autobiography. Keep it concise and focused on your key attributes. For example, when considering all of your past experience, focus on experience that's relative to your current goal. Make every word count as you sell yourself and your value to a potential employer.

Hi Amanda,

Think of your admissions resume objective like a summary that offers the school a quick look at what's important. Try to write your objective from the school's point of view. Choose wording that focus on what you bring to the school like:

  • Nursing experience
  • Completion of prerequisite coursework
  • GPA
  • Leadership qualities
  • Intended Plan of Study

Use these factors to relate to your objective for participating in the program and how being part of the program relates to what you plan to do following graduation, and why you want to take part in this particular nursing program.

-- Contributed by: Donna Sundblad

I am about to get my associates in pre nursing and I am writing a resume for my college applications. I am trying to think of an objective for the school as well as nursing program i.e I am seeking admission at ___ college with hopes for being accepted into the nursing program as well.

Hi Rohini,

See my answer to Cassandra. For a College Admissions resume, your objective will deal be your "educational objective". Ask yourself why you want to attend a specific school. This is your objective in a nutshell. One you understand your objective, take time to find the right way to state it on your resume. As with any resume, you want to present the information in a professional manner that will make a good first impression.

Educational ojective

-- Contributed by: Rohini

Hi Cassandra,

The objective for your College Admissions resume should inform college recruiters as to what your main goal is. Fit your objective to NYU. For example, your objective may be, "To earn a degree in Human Resource Management and Development at NYU."

Vanessa,

Your objective will be based on the job you're targeting and how your skills or education will make you the best person for the job. Once you determine what type job you plan pursue, you can look for sample resumes online for that particular field to get some ideas.

Hi Christina,

Your objective appears fairly general - it's important to highlight specific skills that you possess that make you the person that will stand out for the job. What is special about your background that has given you these skills (what area/industry is it in)? What have you done that specifically illustrate these skills? Many career coaches today also suggest focusing on what traits are desired for a specific position, and tailoring your resume an/or objective to that.
